FAQ

I get a lot of questions about doing nails so I wanted to share some information and tips with you.

•How long have you been doing nails?

I have been a nail tech for 30 years. Still learning more and more all the time!

•How long have you been a blogger?

I am a complete newbie. I only started this site in August, 2016. I feel like I’ve had a calling to start a blog for the last year or so. It took me a while to get up the courage to get it started, because I am definitely not a writer, and have never done anything like this before. I am learning as I go for sure. With hard work and dedication, I am going to strive to make my blog site Among the best nail blogs out there.

•What types of art brushes and nail art tools do you use?

My favorite nail art brushes are listed below. I use each one for different effects.

Fuji nail art brushes I love these because there are 4 different sizes. The long ones are great for lines.

Wistonia art brushes– These are wonderful for detailed painting

Dotting tools-These are awesome for creating anything from polka dots to tiny dot accents.

What is your favorite nail art paint?

Since I now have a large selection of gel polish, I usually use these to do my nail art. However, prior to using gel polish, I always used acrylic paints for my nail art. I bought the multi color palettes from Michaels. They have a pretty good selection, so I could pretty much find any color I needed. It is also easy to mix acrylic paints to make new colors!

•What’s your favorite base and top coat?

I always use Gelish foundation base coat.

For natural nails, I like to use CND stickey base coat.

I mostly Gelish top it off top coat as my go to, but I love the Gel II Xtreme shine top coat to use over glitter. The reason, is because it’s a little thicker, and I don’t want glitter getting in my regular top coat.

For natural nails, I like Seche vite, as it’s shiny finish is wonderful, and dries quickly!

•What is your favorite line of gel polish?

I like several different lines of gel polish. Gelish, Artistic nail designs, Gelaze, Essie, are a few of my favorites.

•What is my favorite line of nail polish?

I have a lot of favorites, (too many to list here) but I love China glaze, Zoya and OPI, due to their color selections, and ease of application.

•What’s the best way to polish nails?

First, Make sure you give yourself enough time to dedicate to polishing your nails!

The best advise I can give to accurately apply nail polish or gel polish, is to do it very slowly on the first coat. If you go slow, you can get close to the cuticle and side walls without touching the skin. If you do touch the skin, you can use a q tip dipped in polish remover to clean up cuticles after the nails have dried. If using gel polish,  lean up prior to curing nails.
•How do you get great pictures of nails?

I use my iPhone to take all of my pictures. BUT I also use the app photo editor to remove blemishes in the pictures,  add effects and watermarks.

•Where did you get your skills?

I went to manicuring school many years ago. (Back in the late 80’s) through the years, I have learned so much through experience. I feel like I have taught myself a lot through trial and error, and have taught myself  more than I could say by research and trying things out myself. Not to mention, practice, practice. If there is something I want to learn how to do,  I practice till I get it right. This is really the key.

•What type of curing light do you use?

I use a Gelish 18G LED lamp. I love the fast curing time, (30 seconds) compared to UV which is 2 minute cure time.
